In  Eden rock and walking away both, present moments of separation to communicate ideas about letting go of a loved one. However , in eden rock this is presented from the viewpoint of a child , whereas in walking away it is presented from the viewpoint of a father.

in eden rock moments of separation are presented as traumatic for the child because his parents are on the “other bank” and “they beckon ” for him. the image that this poem gives off is that the small boy is alone and way from his parents.the word “beckons” give a tone of urgency, and that his parents want him to come close. for a small child to be away from his parents is a scary thing. this is a moment of separation to communicate ideas about letting go because the image that the boy is small and his parents are over the “other bank” could be a symbol for death , and how the poet , Charles Causley , has to let his parents go. more evidence of this is the symbolism of his mum and angles.  Charles Causley describes his mum as having hair “colour of wheat” which “takes on the light”. the word “light” in my opinion represents angles. the way it added to the image of death is that angles are a in heaven so the “other bank” could be interpreted as heaven and that his parents have died.

in walking away it is presented as traumatic for the adult in the instance of the father .the moment when the father “can see” the boy ” walking away from” him. From some of the word it gives the sentence a tone that the father does not wants to leave . this gives the effect that the relationship is different from different person perspective . From the boys point of view it shows that there relationship between both the son and farther as paternal love but to the farther its more than.

in eden rock the separation is presented as swift and sudden as when you realise that the boy is on the “other bank”. from moments when he describes his family it gives the impression that they are together. until the moment when he writes “other bank”. the quote “other bank” could be a symbol for there relationship not being close. we can tell this from when the “father spins a stone across the water” this gives the impression that the father is having fun without the son.also the gap between there relationship , father and son, is represented by the water. this would give an impression that they are not close
